Things are moving right along now! Wrapping up plumbing and electric and getting inspections done, nothing too exciting to report there. Except perhaps the dream I had, in which we were finally moving into the beautiful finished house and unpacking the boxes we’ve been living out of for 9 months…only to find that none of the lights would turn on. The best part was that we were totally fine with it – shrugged our shoulders and just kept unpacking, ha!
The carpenters have been doing an awesome job repurposing the beams we disassembled when the back of the house was removed. The beams will now be featured around the dining room, and in a few door frames….
Also coming along is the kitchen, ssslllooowwwlllyyy. We have cabinets and have finally figured it the best way to utilize the space. It was definitely tricky trying to figure out where everything is going to go, because it is a small, L-shaped kitchen. In fact we are still trying to figure out where things will go – we have a HUGE antique double sink that I love, but it will take up a ton of space. We have gone back and forth about a thousand times on whether or not to put it in, or just buy a regular farmhouse sink. Now I think we have settled on using it. Who knows. Side note, more repurposed beams will be used in the doorway to the living room (below)
There has been more framing done to plan for the pantry that will be built off of the kitchen and into the breezeway space, as well as framing around the built-in hutch in the kitchen. We were also able to open up the kitchen a smidge more by taking down a wall which we knew housed one of the chimneys. I was so certain there would be an old fireplace back there! I can’t believe I was wrong. Historically, it would have made perfect sense, this being the kitchen and all. However, it seems someone along the way had already patched the whole thing up (and painted it yellow to boot!). We will find a way to spruce this little space up.
The roof is also still in the process of being done, here was Nick the other day inspecting progress…
So that is the latest for now! We are getting closer to insulating and putting up walls, which is exciting. I will leave you with some shots of our new turtle friend in the yard. The girls named him “Crispy” (?!)

Thank you Carol! And yes, albeit slowly but surely haha 🙂

The kitchen looks so much brighter already. I love all those windows and think that big double sink would fit beautifully there so when Nick is doing the dishes 🙂 he can look out over the yard. Good to know you still have your wits and sense of humor as you continue this restoration.

It feels so much brighter too! And I am SO looking forward to that visual of Nick coming to fruition! An occasion like that will definitely make the blog, I’ll be sure to document it haha
